Introducing...Dee Mobeel
Handcrafted in 1982, and repurposed in 2021 as a hoodoo breaking momentum machine, "The Dee Mobeel" helped see the mighty Demons annihilate the Dogs in 2021. This magnificent white albatross of a vehicle has been an omnipotent presence on the streets of Melbourne her whole decorated life.
However, as with all good things and like most 50-year members, this grand old girl is starting to sag a bit and require more frequent lubrication than ideal. So, after a stellar career and single handedly abolishing the Demons grand final hoodoo (and a couple of Toorak’s most manicured nature strips), it’s time to shake off the hangover and see this proud European goddess run out for one final public service around our great land.
Piloting her on this epic victory lap to the red centre, brothers Tom and Ed Nathan, will ably navigate the Dee Mobeel to spread the joy (and plumes of partially combusted diesel and oil) to the faithful masses.
With the charcuterie boards packed, the soft cheeses suitably warmed and a week’s supply of Nona Petracca’s ragu in the glove compartment, the boys are ready and raring to help the Cancer Council deliver a swift “behind the play” blow to the cods of the "Big C" with the team from the Shitbox Rally.
So, for all our friends and families that have been touched by this prick of a thing we are doing our bit to help, and hope that you can spare a few of your folding towards the good cause.
It will be fun; it will be gruelling. We may make it back, we may not. But one thing is certain, we will be back for the ski season in July school holidays!
Whether you’re a Dees supporter, or from the great unwashed, all donations are welcome!

The Rally
This year, all the teams are driving their Shitbox car (cars valued at $1500 or less) from Melbourne to Alice Springs via Hay, Silverton, Tibooburra, Windorah, Bendourie and Tobermorey. Look it up - it's a looong way! Shitbox Rally is not a race, rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable. Travelling across Australia via some of its most formidable roads and remote communities while supporting a worthy cause, turning some heads and having some fun. We have a 1982 Mercedes 300TD running on all 5-cylinders, the brake fluid has been topped up and the Melbourne Demons decals buffed and polished. With megaphone in hand, we want to spread the joy of “It’s a Grand Old Flag” to the wider Australian masses. |
The Cause
Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 14th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 – so we are reaching out to our corporate sponsors to help raise those funds.
These funds go to Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated.
This year the rally aims to raise $2m for Cancer Council, which is used to fund cancer research projects nationally. Since the rally launched in 2009 it has raised over $38million and is the largest funder for the Cancer Council in Australia.
