We won't ask you your age but how long have you been a Melbourne supporter?
51 years of next-level Dees devotion. How did you become a Melbourne supporter? My brothers, Carlton diehards, took me to every Carlton match as a kid. The first time I saw Melbourne play they captured my eye, and before long, my heart. I knew it would break my oldest brother’s navy blue heart to know my heart was beating true for the red and the blue so for decades I masqueraded as a Blues fan, right down to my Bruce 11 Doull duffel coat. It was only when my brother died in August 2000 that I “came out” as a Dees supporter. How long have you been in the cheer squad? And what made you decide to join? Round 7, 2022. I was being harassed by a repugnant Hawks supporter and as I was leaving the ‘G (in tears) at halftime a security guy told me to sneak in and sit behind the goals where I’d feel safe. Unbeknownst to me I was sitting in the cheer squad. I turned to the lady next to me and said, “I never ever want to sit anywhere else at matches than right here. Ever!” And I’ve been there ever since. Not planning on leaving anytime soon, either. Favourite current player? Men’s: Langers, now that Harmsey and Jayden have gone 😭 Women’s: Gabi Colvin/Goldie Favourite Melbourne player ever? Jim Stynes Favourite game? Favourite recent match: Round 23, 2021. (Maxy’s goal after the siren.) Greatest player you ever saw? This can be from any club. It’s a tie: Jimmy and Robbie Highest point in your footballing career Needless to say… Our premiership in 2021 Lowest point in your footballing career ”186”… the monumental drubbing at the hands of Geelong in 2011. A dark, dark day. Any football superstitions? Just one little superstition… I have to be wearing Melbourne socks at matches. Craziest thing you've ever done for the Dees? Got the sack. I had a part-time job. My boss warned me if I didn’t turn up for work the following day (Saturday) “don’t bother showing up on Monday.” He wasn’t bluffing. I chose to go to the footy. I didn’t bother showing up on Monday. |
"This is my favourite pic of me in footy gear. Taken at the final siren, Round 22 last year vs Carlton. A little less than two goals down with 40 seconds remaining. Melksy kicks truly. 14 seconds left… KOZZZIE!!! Will never forget this moment."
