Meet our Members - Katy
We won't ask you your age but how long have you been a Melbourne supporter?
I have been a Demon supporter since I was born- or possibly in utero. My support is hereditary. How did you become a Melbourne supporter? My dad went for Melbourne, his Mum went for Melbourne, I think her dad went for Melbourne. Funnily enough my Aunty goes for Richmond but I won’t hold it against her. How long have you been in the cheer squad? And what made you decide to join? Officially I have been in the cheer squad for 10 years (this is number 11) but I was gifted a membership for 1 year that I was unable to use as a teen (logistics were tricky). I became a member when I realised football was a good way to communicate with my extended family. Favourite current player? Bayley Fritsch Favourite Melbourne player ever? Robbie Flower was so elegant. Favourite game? That Geelong V Melbourne game a few years ago the same year we lost because Max missed the goal, but instead he kicked the goal and we won! (details are hazy but it’s the vibes) Greatest player ever? This can be from any club. I really loved watching Eddie Betts play. Highest point in your footballing career Highest point in my fan career was the prelim final against Hawthorn when the lady that I had never met sitting next to Me and I shared a teary hug at the end of the match. Lowest point in your footballing career Lowest point was a few years ago when we were doing poorly (circa 2018) when I decided to go to a game that was hard to get to and we were likely to go because I “had a good feeling” and sat in the stands crying as Freo kicked goal after goal. Any football superstitions? No superstitions but sometimes I have a hunch that we’ll do well. As detailed above, I’m often wrong. Craziest thing you've ever done for the Dees. I hold up a big head every week so my friend watching at home can look for me on the tv and take a screenshot to show everyone at church. One time I made it into an AFL instagram tribute to Jonesy for his 300th game. |
