Meet our Members - Margaret
We won’t ask you your age but how long have you been a Melbourne supporter?
I don’t mind saying I’m 93 years old and have been a Melbourne supporter since 1977. How did you become a Melbourne supporter? Can I say I was originally a Collingwood supporter but after the 1977 drawn GF, I met my future husband who was a Melbourne member and I have followed Melbourne ever since. My father was an umpire in the old VFL and we followed him around to games so always loved footy. How long have you been in the cheer squad and what made you decide to join? We sat in the top tier of the Southern Stand for the 2000 GF against Essendon and realised we were missing out on all the fun and action which was in the Cheer Squad so we became part of the Demon Army. Favourite current player? Jack Viney – have always liked him a lot. He has grit, guts & determination, and a purposeful look on his face. Favourite Melbourne player ever? Robbie Flower Favourite game? 2021 Grand Final. Memories of such happy faces. Greatest player you ever saw? This can be from any club. Gerard Healy – bit like Viney, always knew he would do something good. His footy spirit was memorable. Highest point in your footballing career? I've got two.
Lowest point in your footballing career? Match at Geelong when they beat us by a record winning margin. One of my favourite memories is my father always saying "It’s only a game but you have to fight to win." |
